If you are reading this blog post, you are most likely here to know what foods have vitamin C. I am here to tell you exactly that this is especially the season when most people get sick because they don’t have vitamin C. That’s why today I will show you what foods have vitamin C and how it help us.

Understanding the Role of Vitamin C

Vitamin C helps increase the power of the immune system of our body. This prevents viral diseases and reduces the chance of infection. It also helps absorb iron and achieve a clearer skin. Also healthy bones and cartilage. For this reason alone, vitamin C deserves to be noticed. Not only does it have physical or external benefits but it also helps us with stress relief. It protects our cells from oxidative stress too. This prevents Alzheimer’s disease and other sorts of dementia. It can also prevent short/long-term memory loss by helping with sleep.

Vitamin C also produces dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin. These are chemicals that regulate our mood, memory, and attention. Meaning it gives us improved focus and concentration.

Exploring Vitamin C-Rich Foods

My Google searches on what foods have vitamin C led me to find out that most fruits and vegetables have certain quantities of vitamin C.

Several varieties of citrus fruits are used, including oranges, grapefruits, lemons, limes, and tangerines. An average medium orange contains 70 mg of vitamin C which is more than 100% of the Daily Value.

What is interesting to know is the fact that even red and green peppers are also rich in this vitamin. A raw red pepper contains over 150 mg. As for other vegetables, do not forget about broccoli and Brussels sprouts – they are also rich in vitamin C. A cup of either offers approximately 80-90 milligrams of this antioxidant.

More vitamin C-containing fruits include strawberries, papaya, kiwi, guava, and pineapples. Tomatoes, potato, spinach, cabbage, and peas provide just about the same amount, that is 20mg per serving. Some foods contain less of this vitamin but in substantial quantities; these include cantaloupe, carrots, mangoes, and raspberries among others.

As you have noticed, introducing more vitamin C foods into your menu and diet plans is not quite a challenging task, is it? For example, I have been attempting to consume an orange in the morning for breakfast myself. I will cut it and take it as a snack by itself or mix it with Greek yogurt and some granola. For lunch or dinner, broccoli will be taken as a vegetable or some recipes will be enriched with peppers and tomatoes.

But what I like to eat at lunch is a plate of fresh fruit, especially strawberries. They make me feel like it’s a kind of sneaky meal that’s very healthy for me even if it’s not very healthy for me.
